Maré Relic - Necklace

Maré Relic is a piece about discovery, transformation, and the quiet beauty of things shaped by time. Maré, meaning “sea and tide” in Portuguese, captures the essence of this piece—the way the ocean constantly reshapes everything it touches.

Handcrafted in sterling silver, this necklace carries a fragment of the past—an ocean-worn piece of ceramic I found while walking along the quiet shore of Termonfeckin Beach, on Ireland’s eastern coastline in County Louth. Once part of something whole, it was carried by the waves, softened by the tide, and smoothed by years of movement. It holds the mystery of where it came from, what it once was, and who might have held it before the sea carried it away.

At the top, a Sky Blue Topaz, light and luminous like the sea on a clear day. Below, a deep Lapis Lazuli, rich and mysterious like the ocean’s depths. Their shifting blues mirror the ever-changing waters—sometimes bright and sparkling, sometimes dark and endless. The silver setting preserves the ceramic’s natural form, embracing its raw edges and organic imperfections as part of its story.
